Dams. The ones that hold back large amounts of water, and the trees and the sediments flowing down river. Slowly, those fines fill up the reservoir behind the dam. To what degree though is river regulation redistributing such materials? Enough so that local residents can no longer gather secondary clays downstream? Perhaps.
Wildfire. The kind that burns all winter, underground. How hot does it get down there? Hot enough to burn carbon. What about clay minerals? Could holdover fires be hot enough to make ceramics?
Air quality in Fairbanks. Replace your wood stove, we hear year after year. Yet, we see that the air quality is very poor close to the coal power plants - UAF, Aurora, Zehnder, Doyon - in town. How well are their filters working? Could burning coal for heat and fuel be the main contributor to PM2.5?
Weathering from high temps in Alaska is unlikely but what about physical weathering by way of tectonic activity. Where are slip faults creating pottery slip?

Could folks "working on the environment" from behind a computer screen make a larger impact if they spent their time outside physically stewarding the land instead?
